TMJ
DISORDERS
Do you suffer with headaches, dizziness, jaw fatigue, earaches or neck
and shoulder stiffness? It may be temporomandibular joint disorder,
also known as TMD or craniomandibular disorders (CMD). These terms
describe the jaws, muscles, ligaments, tendons, nerves and jaw joints.
A jaw joint disorder can be caused by a variety of factors. The head,
neck and facial pain often associated with TMD problems can masquerade
as sinus headaches, neck and shoulder stiffness, migraines and other
disorders.
Causes
TMD/CMD problems can be caused by a whiplash injury, a blow or a fall
that involves the head or chin, clenching or grinding teeth brought on
by high stress, arthritis in the joint or teeth not meeting properly.
Postural neglect can also be a big part of the disorder.
Diagnosis & Screening
A thorough exam and health history is taken by Dr.
Steinberg, who has special,
advanced training in the specific care
of the jaw joint. Electronic testing is performed to assess the
condition, determine the cause and formulate a treatment plan.
